Ms. Hanlon's Happenings

Welcome!

Welcome to Ms. Hanlon's classroom website!  Throughout the school year this site will be used to inform you on all things Kindergarten!  I will update this site at the beginning of each month with all of the exciting topics we will be learning. Click on the Sneak Peek tab at the top to find out what we will be covering in math, writing, science & geography. You can also read about the virtue of the month. YOU might even learn something new!

The Hanlon's Happenings tab is home to Announcements and Reminders.  This portion of the website will serve as a monthly newsletter.  It is a quick and easy place to look for important messages, events and reminders from your child’s teacher. Scroll all the way to the bottom to find the Save the Date  section for a convenient list of events to add to your calendar.

Announcements and Reminders: November

  •

  • Handwriting: Scholars will continue learning each letter formation in the alphabet. They will be required to complete homework each night, and I will grade based on their accurate letter formations. Please continue to practice the baselines, clock points, and the letters we have already learned to keep them fresh. We will have our next dictation on Nov. 7th.

  • Math: We will continue learning how to measure in inches, compare lengths, and introduce weight. There will be a test on this topic on Nov. 16th.

  • Science: At the beginning of November our scholars will be learning about body systems. They will learn how to identify many bones in the skeletal system. They will become “bone detectives” and do the “bone” hokey pokey. Our class will also learn about the digestive, circulatory, respiratory and excretory systems. Please ask your child about their body systems. After we have learned about our body and how it works, we will then learn about the different types of food that go into our body to make it work and feel good. The Kindergarteners will become familiar with the “My Plate” eating plan. They will know each food group and how to sort healthy food into each group. The test on this will be between Nov. 14-16 (TBD).

  • Geography: We will be identifying and learning about South America. Your child will crayon color and watercolor a globe to recognize South America. They will also become familiar with South America’s countries by signing a song and coloring each country on a map. The class will also create an animal map of South America. They will learn different types of animals that live in this continent. After studying various maps of South America, our class will create a rainforest habitat. They will learn about a variety of animals that live in in each layer of the rainforest (forest floor, understory, canopy, and emergent). You can begin learning the South America song to prepare (see my website).

  • Virtue: Temperance means mastering ourselves and our impulses for the sake of the happiness of those around us. It’s about acting the right way at the right time. In November  we will focus on temperance. Please praise your child for all of their GREAT temperance they have shown thus far in Kindergarten.

  • Please make sure to support your child in completing their homework, but do not do it for them. You can show them examples on another paper, but please do not complete any of the letters on their paper. They should be practicing as many times as possible.

  • As the weather cools off, please ensure your child is appropriately dressed for the weather. Keep in mind we have two recesses per day.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns! *
